#1 LSU Looks To Avenge 7OT Loss To Aggies

  • Tony Thomas

LSU and Texas A&M played in a record 7OT game in 2018, with the Aggies winning 74-72. The #1 LSU Tigers look to avenge that 7OT loss against the Aggies on Saturday night in Death Valley.

Texas A&M is currently 7-4 on the season, with those four losses coming against Top Ten opponents Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia.

The Tigers (11-0) are coming off a 56-20 win vs Arkansas to clinch the SEC West and a date with Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Defense for an entire game

LSU is not only looking to avenge a 7OT loss to the Aggies, but it’s also one more opportunity for their defense to piece together a 60-minute game.

The LSU defense has been a “bend but don’t break” unit all season. Injuries and suspensions have had an impact. Against Arkansas, LSU held the Razorbacks to 100 total yards in the first half and scoreless in the third quarter.

Arkansas was held to just two field goals in the first half, but the Razorbacks scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter as Arkansas finished the game with 304 yards of total offense.

Jacoby Stevens had three sacks and the Tigers racked up 11 tackles for loss.

4000 yards and counting

QB Joe Burrow passed for 327 yards and 3 TDs and no interceptions while completing 82% of his passes. He eclipsed the 4000-yard mark on the season.

The Tigers scored five touchdowns on the ground, including an 89-yard run by Clyde Edwards-Helaire and a 39-yard run by Tyrion Davis-Price.

WR Ja’Marr Chase caught 6 passes for 144 and 2 touchdowns, setting a school record for receiving touchdowns in a season.

LSU must establish a consistent pass rush against Aggies QB Kellen Mond. The Tiger secondary will need to be position to prevent big plays from Aggie receivers Jahmon Ausbon and Kendrick Rogers.

The Aggies have shown that they can score a bunch of points as well. LSU will need to keep its foot on the gas and to keep the Tigers in the lead.

But LSU has a “12th man” of its own, in the form of a raucous crowd in Tiger Stadium.
