Myrna Quarles of Cotton Valley has been indicted by U. S. Attorney David Joseph for a million-dollar-plus heist of taxpayer money funding the feeding of low-income children.

Working with Joseph and others in his office in the investigation and prosecution of Quarles are the FBI, U. S. Department of Agriculture, and Louisiana Inspector General.

Quarles, 58, was the director of the Greater Horizons Developmental Services, a non-profit in Webster Parish. In 2014 and 2015, she scored taxpayer funds of more than a million dollars from the Agriculture Department’s Summer Feeding Service Program.

Quarles, according to the U. S. Attorney, “greatly inflated the number of eligible meals provided,” using the money to pay personal expenses. She was thereby charged with five counts of theft of government property, five counts of forged securities “of the states and private entities,” and twenty-seven counts of money laundering.

She faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years for each count of theft and forgery, and twenty years for each count of money laundering.

Readers well remember, I am certain, that the first such indictments for the same scam nailed Caddo Parish Commissioner Lynn Cawthorne and his sister. Their trial is scheduled for this fall.

Here is my most recent article on that massive such public corruption here, with an additional link about its history:
