Byrd vs Shreve Lives up to Hype

Game of the Week - Jackets and Gators

  • Joel Rodgers

Shreveport — Halloween 2019 was greeted with the biggest rivalry in Shreveport; the Captain Shreve Gators vs the C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets.

Earlier this year, their jamboree was canceled minutes into the game due to lightning. Eight weeks later, they would meet again.

Going into the game, many thought it’d be close, we just didn’t know how close. Turns out, it’d be REAL CLOSE! At end of the first quarter the score was tied, 0-0. At the end of regulation (thanks to a long touchdown drive and 2pt conversion by Byrd) the score was tied at 15.

Overtime saw both Captain Sheve and Byrd score touchdowns, but due to a missed PAT -that would have tied the game at 22- the Gators got out with the win. Final score Captain Shreve 22 Byrd 21.

Both defenses played lights out in a game for the ages.

Shreve’s defense scored two defensive touchdowns and Byrd’s defense help a high powered offense to a season low in points and yards.

The game dubbed as the “Backyard Brawl” was also our RSHV Aire Serv of Shreveport Game of the Week. It lived up to the hype for sure.
