Cane River Brewing Company Releases NSU Beer

  • Ronald Oswalt

Natchitoches, LA – Cane River Brewing Company announced today the release of the Demon Lager, the first official Northwestern State beer.

Co-founders Justin Krouse and Cade Gentry, both Northwestern State alumni, jumped at the opportunity to support their alma mater while also expanding the beer selection at CRB.

“The decision to create this beer was really a no-brainer for us,” said Krouse. “We’re thrilled to be working with Northwestern State, a place that means so much to us, as well as to be able to provide the Demon community with representation in the collegiate beer market.”

As a licensed vendor for Northwestern State, CRB incorporates Northwestern State logo marks on the Demon Lager cans, making them easy to identify. When consumers purchase Demon Lager, they will be supporting not only CRB but also Northwestern State.

“It’s not commonly known that becoming a licensed vendor is another form of alumni support for your institution,” said Gentry. “This is just another way we can give back to Northwestern as thanks for not only everything they’ve done for Justin and me as students but also for the Natchitoches community as a whole.”

Northwestern State announced earlier this August that beer and spiked seltzers will be sold in Turpin Stadium during the 2019 football season. Football game attendees aged 21 and older will be able to purchase the Demon Lager at concession stands in Turpin Stadium for the duration of the 2019 season. The CRB team is excited to be on the forefront of this new direction from a business standpoint as well as from a family perspective.

“My family has a long-standing history with Northwestern State. Both my parents dedicated their entire careers to Northwestern, and my grandfather and dad both played football for the Demons,” said Gentry. “It means a lot to be able to contribute another element of enjoyment to the Demon fan’s experience, especially in a place I’m so strongly connected to.”

The project’s success is a result of the work both Cane River Brewing and Northwestern State have put in for almost a year prior to this point.

“We are so appreciative of Cane River Brewing for taking the necessary steps to become a licensed vendor and investing in the NSU brand,” said Dr. Haley Taitano, associate athletic director for external affairs. “Universities throughout the state and across the country have formed similar partnerships with their local breweries, so it is exciting to see this product, which has been in the works for nearly a year, finally reach the finish line. Fork ‘em, Demons!”

Cane River Brewing will host a watch party for the first NSU football game versus UT Martin on Thursday, August 29, in the CRB taproom. Demon Lager will be available for purchase in early September at retail locations where CRB beer is sold and in the CRB taproom.
