Crawfest; family fun from head to ‘tails’

If you thought the rocket ship was a big deal at Betty Virginia Park, wait until you see Crawfest 2018!

It’s this Saturday (March 24) and the details keep growing and growing!

If you’re wanting to attend Crawfest, but are worried about parking, don’t fret.

There will be FREE TRANSPORTATION to Crawfest at Betty Virginia Park 2018! Enjoy free roundtrip transportation to Betty Virginia Park, courtesy of our friends at IShuttle, LLC and Vintage Realty Company. Details below:

-Pickup will be at Pierremont Office Park in the back of the complex. See map for details. You may park anywhere in the Office Park.

-Dropoff will be at the Fairfield Avenue entrance of Betty Virginia Park.

-Shuttles will run approximately every 15minutes from 10am – 8pm. Crawfest official time is 11am-7pm, so this will allow time for early entry and last call at end of event.

-Patrons are allowed to bring chairs, blankets, pets, etc. onto the iShuttle. Please be respectful of the vehicle!

Boom! problem solved.

What about food?
Fresh boiled crawfish platters, burgers, hot dogs, and jambalaya will be for sale from Shane’s Seafood & BBQ. Ice cream, snow cones, and a selection of food from area vendors will also be available for purchase. We will have more options and more vending areas for food this year!

Water, soft drinks, beer, and wine will be available for purchase. Crawfest will continue the tradition of highlighting the best of Shreveport’s locally-brewed craft beer.

“Well I don’t eat crawfish.” They have you covered!

Now that parking and food are covered, you might still be asking, “what about the kids, how’s Crawfest going to entertain my kids?”

Two words; Kids Funzone.

This year’s event will feature a much-expanded Kids FunZone, featuring premium rides and activities from our friends at Duvall’s Amusement Rentals . This wristband includes access to all of the following activities:
Miniature 9-hole Golf
Mickey Mouse Play House
Battle Light Challenge
Bungee Jump
Inflatable Slide
FunZone wristbands are available now for $15. Wristbands will be $20 day of the event.


Also, this year your kids can enjoy the kid combine;

The Kid Combine will be making a return at Crawfest at Betty Virginia Park 2018! This free event for kids was a huge hit as last year’s Crawfest. The folks from Walk-On’s Independence Bowl will be conducting this run, kick, pass combine for kids all day at Crawfest. The kids with best scores will have a chance to compete for the championship at the Indy Bowl!

**Also just announced, or rather, announcing now; a kid’s crawfish eating contest!

The Kids crawfish eating contest will take place right before Ole Whiskey Revival takes the stage, so around 12:45. Current Mudbug Madness Crawfish Eating Champion, also known as Real Shreveport’s Joel Rodgers be on the mic to call the contest. Does little one have the speed and skill to peel and eat 10 crawfish faster than the competition? If so, be at the Clarkes Jewelers Stage around noon to sign up.

We will have a few of your favorite local makers and artists returning to the event! Stay tuned for details, and contact us if you would like to have a booth at Crawfest.

VIP EXPERIENCE Presented by Superior’s Steakhouse
New to this year’s festival, a limited number of VIP Tickets will be for sale. VIP ticket holders will have access to a private, tented, climate-controlled area with prime stage viewing and seating. 318 ROAD RACE Presented by Sportspectrum
New this year will be a 3.18mile road race, presented by our friends at Sportspectrum. This will be a fun race through the South Highlands neighborhood, terminating at Crawfest right before the festival kicks off! Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/220787135134955

-Admission to the event is free, all food and drink will be for purchase. Main food and beverage vendors take cash and credit. ATMs will be on site.
-This is a pet-friendly event, just follow the park’s normal rules concerning your pups. Pets need to be leashed and picked up after.
-Park rules apply to anything prohibited in the park (like glass, firearms, outside alcohol, etc.).
-Feel free to bring chairs, picnic blankets, footballs, frisbees, and anything else to make your day in the park comfortable.
-Extra portalets and sinks are brought into the park for this event.

Joel Rodgers

Joel Rodgers joined RSHV News 1 in January 2018 as a reporter/journalist. Prior to joining our team, Joel spent the previous 5 years as a morning show reporter, entertainment reporter, and sports reporter for a local television station. At 6’5”, he's the tallest reporter in the history of Shreveport, but it’s more than just his height that makes this Shreveport native stand out. His editing skills combined with his love for storytelling makes for a creative and talented addition to the RSHV News 1 team. After attending and graduating from Evangel Christian Academy, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern State University. Joel is very active in the Shreveport community having won several competitions in recent years. In 2017, he danced his way to victory in the annual Susan G. Komen event, “Dancing for the Cure." He’s also won the “Mudbug Madness” Crawfish eating contest in back-to-back years and was named the top celebrity chef at the “Louisiana Food Prize” cooking competition.
