SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A 24-year veteran of the Shreveport Police Department is now the police chief.

Shreveport City Council members approved Alan Crump for the job with a 6-1 vote Tuesday.

Crump has held the job on an interim basis since July when then-chief Willie Shaw announced his retirement. KSLA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2hsJUgg) that Crump is a 51-year-old Shreveport native who joined the department as a patrolman in 1992.

He was one of seven finalists interviewed to be the city’s top law enforcement officer.
