Reporter Timmy Lane was on the scene after a vehicle pulled up outside of a home in the 3000 block of Sunnybrook Drive and fired multiple shots inside of it around 4:16 on August 2nd. Shreveport Police and Fire Department were also present on the scene, and located several shell casings outside of the home.
According to Shreveport Police, a newborn baby suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was declared deceased on the scene.
Corporal Marcus Hines calls this an “unspeakable tragedy” that the newborn girl, about one month old, was shot and killed. He stated on the scene, “There are not words adequate enough to describe the senselessness of this killing. Right now there are some persons who are cowardly hiding out after having drove past this house and fired shots from a rifle, taking this baby’s life. You might hear behind me the cries from a mother for her baby they’re going to have to bury. What we need is to find out who did it. Someone knows. We need to know who did it… We are dealing with a deceased infant lying on a couch inside of a home. Life hadn’t even gotten started and it’s already over. You cannot wrap your mind around this nonsense. So please, if you have any information, contact CrimeStoppers.”
Furthermore, Corporal Hines emphasized they will be giving out “thousands of dollars” of reward money if someone can give information leading to the location and arrest of the person or persons who committed this crime.
SPD had around 15-16 units on scene. They are currently trying to find someone who may have witnessed anything or may know anything about this shooting. If you have any information about this shooting, please contact the Shreveport Police at (318) 673-7373.
