Edwards Induced Hysteria is Shameful

For the first time since Governor Edwards and Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne decided to scare the heck out of the people of Louisiana, a bit of calming push-back is surfacing. I encourage everyone to read this article in today’s (Baton Rouge) Advocate by Rebekah Allen:

Those of us who have been making sure we did not pour gasoline on this tax-crazy fire are encouraging everyone to remember (1) this special session has nearly three weeks left to run, (2) only the tax-and-spend lobby – on steroids – has been heard from, and (3) virtually all of the traditional news media are themselves very pro-tax, as are our university leaders. In short, too many people see this process as “It’s raining new money … I WANT MINE!!”

For those who have been shaken so seriously – particularly with TOPS cut-back talk and the university closure “Fire!! Fire!! Fire!!” screaming – hit your books – your internet search engine to be more precise – and look for news you can use … not news intended to keep you up at night and fulfill the dreams of every tax-loving interest out there.

My thanks to AP reporter Melinda Deslatte, too, for her piece yesterday in which she explains how the fear mongering Edwards pro-tax-and-spend engine keeps raising the amount of money they say is necessary for the immediate needs. Here is Ms. Deslatte’s analysis:

As for the TOPS articles by Gannett News papers over the weekend, I will only say for now that they can do much better, and can be much fairer. Please, Gannett, set your pro-tax agenda aside, certainly at least until the fire of pro-tax-induced hysteria dies down. I understand what you are trying to do, but – please – give your readers ALL the demographic facts about these subjects … not just the inflammatory ones targeted to your base.

After all, our Governor and Lt. Governor are doing enough inflaming for a thousand people, and for at least a hundred years.
Governor Edwards should already know that real leadership means this: when hard and scary times come, calm Louisianans down … use your megaphone to assure everyone there will certainly be better times ahead. What Louisiana has been given instead is reprehensible. A lust for tax-and-spend “good days ahead” is no excuse for making Louisianans miserable on purpose. And, oh by the way, some of us know you are messing with the numbers, Governor … your citizenry is not stupid. Whatever legitimate need there could be for higher taxes, you buried under a state-sized pile of political poo-poo.

Part II:

February 16, 2016

I should have explained my reference this morning to Jay Dardenne as “Lt. Governor.”

There is a now well-worn joke, among a few of us who talk more or less all the time it now seems, that since no one ever sees our recently-elected Lt. Governor, the “real” one is still Jay Dardenne, or, as some call him, “Co-Governor Dardenne.”

The point, of course, is that Governor Edwards and Commissioner of Administrator Dardenne are working hand-in-hand in their present pro-taxes escapade, in reportedly complete and celebratory agreement, while holding down the “real” top two state jobs.

I should have explained the tongue-in-cheek reference, of course.

Yes, for those who asked, I know Mr. Dardenne’s current, official title, and I know who our current Lt. Governor is. If anyone sees Mr. Nungesser, you may want to report the sighting. 🙂

To those who have gone out of your way to make a big deal of my omission, I would return your subscription payment, but I never received it … free, after all, really is “free.”
