- From Left to Right: Sports Commission's Kelly Wells, Former Mayor Cedric Glover and Current Mayor Ollie Tyler
Wednesday, July 12, 2017
KSLA Television has nailed down Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler’s continuing pursuit – in secret – of a minor league basketball team and new $25,000,000 sports arena for they city.
Tyler would not confirm the meetings without a formal Public Records Law request from and by KSLA.
Tyler’s insistence on secrecy underscores just how wrong-headed such a pursuit is given the city’s more pressing needs such as crime / public safety and infrastructure failures.
KSLA’s work confirms three meetings between July 5th and 7th, of some two hours each. Here is its new online report:
Should Tyler’s effort for well-heeled local pols succeed, some unknown public source – possibly the Port of Caddo-Bossier – will secure the $25,000,000 by borrowing via bond issuance.
The new arena is senseless in many ways, including that Hirsch Coliseum, the Centenary Gold Dome and Bossier City’s Century Link Center are available and ready for any such use.
The political power behind the scheme / scam is the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, a political group formed by a 2010-2011 political (corrupt) hit on the highly successful Shreveport Regional Sports Authority (SRSA) … which Glover had learned he could not legally control.
Working for Glover were notables such as ex-City Councilman Calvin Lester, ex-Caddo Commissioner John Escude, and top staff of the Shreveport-Bossier Tourist and Convention Center. Here is my related June 11th article:
