LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Tech tennis team had a strong showing in its second tournament of the fall season, going undefeated in doubles and finishing with a 4-2 overall mark at the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational on the Cajun Courts.

LA Tech went a perfect 3-0 in doubles in the hidden duals against host Louisiana-Lafayette, ULM and UT Rio Grande Valley. The Lady Techsters registered a 1-2 record in singles, downing the Vaqueros and dropping competitive contests versus the regional foe Warhawks and Ragin’ Cajuns.

“I was very happy with our performance in doubles,” said head coach Amanda Stone. “We went out and played our strategy and it translated into wins. Overall, it was a good weekend. We improved in both singles and doubles from the first tournament.

“Right now, I’m really happy the team is responding well to coaching and learning to adjust and think on the court.”

On Friday, Alexia Romero and Ilana Tetruashvili were dominant at the No. 2 spot, overpowering Hoda Habib/Mariona Perez (ULL) by a score of 6-1. Clinching the win was the combo of Rikona Murakami and Andrea Perez-Lopez besting AK Harvey/Lucie Raquin, 6-3, at the No. 3 position.

The other two doubles matches came on Saturday, first against ULM. Romero/Tetruashvili got in the victory column again, winning 6-3 over Jimena Garbino/Angeles Cueto. Then at No. 1, Nadja Manjon and Ana Jover teamed up to win 6-3 versus Karolina Snita/Emilia Alfaro.

All three doubles teams picked up wins that afternoon versus UT Rio Grande Valley, with final scores of 7-5 (No. 1), 6-1 (No. 2) and 6-2 (No. 3). Romero and Tetruashvili combined to go 3-0 on the weekend, losing just five total games.

LA Tech took down the Vaqueros by a score of 4-2 in singles, winning on courts one, three, four and six. Tetruashvili breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 versus Kristyna Mamicova. Jover and Romero also made quick work of their opponents, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively. Perez-Lopez also recorded a straight-set victory of 7-6, 6-2.

Manjon had the lone singles win against the Warhawks, coming out on top 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.

In the final hidden dual of the tourney, the Lady Techsters won two singles matches against the Ragin’ Cajuns with Jover taking it 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot and Murakami outlasting her opponent by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (7) at No. 5. Tetruashvili and Manjon both fell in a super breaker.

LA Tech will have next weekend off before taking part in the ITA Southern Regionals which gets underway on Oct. 17 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
