  • Staff Reporter

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The LSU women’s golf team stayed on pace through the second round of the 2019 Princess Anne Invitational to maintain second place in the team standings at 2-over 562. LSU shot 3-over for the round for a 283.

Freshman Ingrid Lindblad has taken over the individual lead for the tournament after shooting 2-under 68 for the round. Lindblad shot even on the front nine and 2-under on the back nine with birdies on 11 and 16. She is 5-under for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Caitlin Evans-Brand of Coastal Carolina in second place.

“Ingrid has played extremely solid the first two days and will have a great chance to win the individual championships,” said second-year head coach Garrett Runion.

Fellow rookie Latanna Stone moved up four spots to eighth place, shooting a 1-under 69 in the second round. Junior Kendall Griffin stayed in a tie for 12th place after finishing 2-over 72 for the round, while individual player Kiana Oshiro shota 1-under 69 to jump into a tie for 12th place.

Sophomore Alden Wallace contributed the fourth score to the team total with a 4-over 74. Presley Baggett shot a 76 on the day.

LSU is now second in par 3 scoring, pars and birdies, and third in par 5 scoring.

“The course played much harder today with the front that came through dropping the temperature and bringing strong winds,” said Runion. “We got off to a bit of a slow start making some unforced errors but remained patient and in control knowing it was going to be a long day and scores were going to be higher. We are in a great position to chase Virginia Tech down and bring home the title if we do what we’re capable of doing.

“We have been trending in the right direction and there will be a lot to play for tomorrow individually and as a team. We are excited to get back out there, compete and see what we can do.”

LSU is five shots behind leader Virginia Tech, shooting 3-under 557 on the par 70, 5,824-yard course. Round Three starts at 8:50 a.m. CT for the Tigers in a pairing with Virginia Tech and Chattanooga for the second day in a row.
