Baton Rouge, La. – LSU freshman cross country runner Davis Bove was named this week’s SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week for his debut performance at the LSU Invitational (Sep. 27). Bove ran the 5k on Friday night and finished in sixth place with a time of 15:15.26. His performance was the top freshman time in the meet and the third best time for LSU.
“The first collegiate race was definitely a shock for me,” said Bove. “After only a few weeks of adjusting to hard training and being away from home and everything I knew before, it was hard to know exactly where I stood.
“However, Coach Franks and the guys on the team have been so amazing in leading all of the freshman to feel more comfortable racing. I am so honored to receive this award after my collegiate debut. It’s refreshing to know that my hard work is going somewhere even though I’m a little further back in the field than I was in high school. Geaux Tigers!”
Bove was an accomplished athlete prior to his debut at LSU as he won the 2019 U.S. Elite Junior Elite Triathlon Champion with a time of 55:14.0. Bove becomes the second male freshman for LSU to win the SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the week. The men and women Tigers will look to win their third straight meet Friday night at the Joe Piane Invitational at the Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
