BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Baton Rouge police say a 25-year-old man who had been seen “play-fighting” with his 4-year-old son has been arrested on a negligent homicide charge in the boy’s death.
Defense attorney Ronald Haley Jr. told local news media Tuesday that 25-year-old Kristopher Darius Carter maintains his innocence, and that a lie detector test backs up his statement about Marcel Tennie’s death on Nov. 30.
An autopsy found bruises on Marcel’s abdomen and a broken small bowel.
The arrest report says someone who was with the boy and his father Nov. 29 saw Carter punching Marcel and urging him to punch back.
According to the police report, the boy’s mother told investigators she had repeatedly told Carter not to “play fight” with their son because he sometimes hit the child too hard.
