SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to South Bend, Ind. where they competed in the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday afternoon. The men’s squad competed in the Gold Division 5-mile race and placed fifth overall with 163 points. The women ran the Gold Division 5K where they finished in 10th place with 283 points. This meet was the largest one LSU has competed in thus far as there were over two hundred runners who participated on Friday.

“The two things we want to be known for is racing courageously and tough” said LSU head coach Houston Franks. “We want other teams to know that when they see our bus that they are in for a tough, hard fought day. Today we did those two things. We are a very young team and progressing very well. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn’t be more pleased at where we are right now.”

The women were the first to run on Friday as they competed in the 5K. Katy-Ann McDonald followed her impressive season debut with another great performance. McDonald crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 17:06.13. Junior Alicia Stamey was the next runner to finish for LSU as she placed 40th overall with a time of 17:55.41.
