NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University football graduate transfer Christian Montano was named to the 2019 Rimington Trophy preseason watch list on Friday.
The Rimington Trophy, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, honors the nation’s top center. Montano was among a list of 80 Division I centers that were nominated for the 2019 fall season.
Montano earned the preseason recognition thanks to an impressive resume during his time at Brown, where he earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in 2017. He also was a Phil Steele Preseason All-Ivy selection and was voted as Brown’s team captain prior to the 2018 season.
Earlier this year, Montano was named preseason fourth team All-AAC by Phil Steele Magazine.
Montano’s honor adds to a growing list of Tulane individuals that have been named to preseason watch lists. Earlier this week, junior defensive lineman Patrick Johnson was chosen to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, while senior running back Darius Bradwell was selected as a Doak Walker Candidate.
The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday, January 18, 2020.
The Green Wave open the 2019 season on Thursday, August 29 at home against FIU with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
