FRISCO, Texas — The Nicholls State University men’s basketball program finished 11th in the the Southland Conference’s 2019-20 Preseason Poll, per a release Thursday morning from the league office in Frisco, Texas. The poll is voted upon by the league’s head coaches and sports information departments.
The Colonels received 101 points in total, ranking just 12 points off No. 10 Southeastern Louisiana. New Orleans led the league with 13 first-place votes and 270 total points while Sam Houston State (seven first-place votes, 251 points) and 2018-19 tournament champion Abilene Christian (no first-place votes, 220 points) wrapped up the top three.
Nicholls officially opens the 2019-20 campaign on Nov. 5 at the University of Illinois — the first of five major non-conference roadtrips — before shifting focus to Southland Conference play on Dec. 18, squaring off against league foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Stopher Gym. The Colonels wrap up the regular season schedule on Mar. 4 against McNeese, hosting the Cowboys on Senior Day before potentially advancing to the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas.
