NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State athletic department announced Thursday an agreement that will further enhance student-athlete development through technology.

NSU has partnered with Game Plan, a software platform that helps organizations deliver online education, mentorship and career services to support student-athletes.

“Game Plan offers a unique opportunity to enhance our life skills and student-athlete development programming in a way that makes sense for our staff and the student-athletes we serve,” Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development Kaitlyn McCanna said. “The user-friendly online platform allows us to engage with our current student-athletes by helping us deliver interactive courses about key topics, including goal setting, time management, social media usage, personal identity, financial literacy, and so much more.”

Game Plan offers more than 80 eLearning courses developed uniquely for student-athletes, personality assessments and eWorkshops while employing an analytics program to measure student-athletes’ progress.

Foundation courses Game Plan focus on a number of topics, including sexual violence prevention, sports wagering and life skills development.

“The addition of Game Plan to the athletic department’s Victorious For Life program repertoire further enhances an initiative that has made Northwestern State a leader in community service and citizenship,” Director of Athletics Greg Burke said. “Personal responsibility is one of the three core values for NSU Athletics, and to that point, we look recruits and their parents in the eye and tell them the time they spend at NSU will prepare them for the next phase of their life – for the rest of their life – on so many levels.”

NSU also will utilize Game Plan’s career marketplace feature to bring employment opportunities at both the local and national levels to its student-athletes.

Additionally, McCanna said she sees further benefits through the partnership with Game Plan, which is based in Greenville, North Carolina, and has partnered with universities across the country, including Purdue, East Carolina, Syracuse, LSU and Southland Conference schools Stephen F. Austin and McNeese.

“We’re eager to implement the use of Game Plan into our Victorious for Life programming, which will allow current and former Demon student-athletes access to information on topics that impact them now and 10 years from now,” McCanna said. “Another exciting area we are exploring with the use of Game Plan is reconnecting with our former student-athletes to help create networking and mentorship opportunities.”
