Officials reject New Orleans detectives’ requested raises

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — City government officials have rejected a local police union’s request to give pay increases to all New Orleans police detectives.

The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/2hThHjd) the city’s Civil Service Commission on Monday unanimously rejected the request in a decision backed by the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD Capt. and president of the Police Association of New Orleans Michael Glasser says the group’s request followed a decision earlier this year to give detectives in the special victims section a pay raise.

Department and Civil Service Commission officials said that pay bump was aimed at recruiting detectives after an inspector general’s report exposed problems in the unit.

Commission member Tania Tetlow said Tuesday that while the city would like to see all detectives make more money, the budget doesn’t allow for it.
