SHORT TAKES … Wednesday, August 23, 2017 … 2:55 P.M.
To get to the short takes, here are the final points about yesterday’s City Council meeting:
… Some on the Council, and all on the staff, seemed fearful of anything and everything they said, constantly looking at Tyler for approval, as they might a scary schoolmarm.
… Among Tyler’s special invitees was State Representative Barbara Norton. Her testimonial was other-worldly as she claimed to speak for “the State of Louisiana.” Of course, she was elected by those in her state legislative district, not the state, but has not received the memo.
… My top-line takeaway was that Tyler is actually the mayor of those in favor of this deal, and any / all other of her deals. She clearly has no use for opinions of any opponents.
#1: SHREVEPORT POLICE SAY “NO, NO, NO, NO!” TO SPORTS COMPLEX
My thanks to the Shreveport Police Officer’s Association, and top guy Michael Carter. Here’s a quote from his news conference today …
… “SPOA adamantly holds Mayor Ollie Tyler, CAO Brian Crawford, and City Attorney Will Bradford, Jr., accountable for ignoring the safety needs of Shreveport, Louisiana.”
Here’s is the news conference video (hat-tip to KTBS-TV):
#2: NEW ORLEANS PELICANS ATTENDANCE WAS AWFUL!
The would-be minor league basketball team would play only 25 games a year in the boondoggle $30,000,000 arena proposed by Tyler / Sports Commission. In the 2017 season, the NBA professional New Orleans Pelicans parent club ranked 24th of 30 NBA teams by that measure. That’s an awful average of 16,173 folks at the team’s home games this past season.
Here’s the subject NOLA.COM story Tyler, Inc., hopes no one sees, much less reads:
#3: KTBS’ SHON GABLES ON CITY ATTORNEY WILLIAM BRADFORD
Ms. Gables explains how biggie consulting firm Corporate Realty in Birmingham hooked-up with City Attorney William Bradford (not Councilman Willie Bradford, and maybe or maybe not kin to Mayor Tyler, as many question). We should bet such crapola will be all over this deal:
#4: TELL PELICANS / BENSON WHAT YOU THINK
A lot of social media friends are choosing to contact the New Orleans Pelicans directly, encouraging them to pass Shreveport by in their choice of city for their gonna-be minor league basketball team. After all, we need every penny for basics including public safety, infrastructure repair, employee pay, among many others.

… to be continued …
