RECAP: 2018 Mickey’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
- Joel Rodgers
On Wednesday, July 18 the city of Shreveport was in for some real fun between the bun. The event, Mickey’s first ever hot dog eating contest.
The competition worked like this, four competitiors from Louisiana battled it out to see who’d be crown top dog in the first ever event. Each person was given 3 hot dogs, the person who finishes first, would be crowned the winner and receive FREE hot dogs from Mickey Davis for 1 year.
But moments before the contest began, two competitors from Texas showed up to battle the winner from Louisiana. What started as a battle of four, quickly became a battle on the border.
The first round (the Louisiana championship) featured Eli Durr, Mark Miller, Carter Breeze, and Jake Wood. Four huge eaters aiming to win free hot dogs for a year. In the end, it was Eli Durr claiming the top prize as he out ate the others.
Then the next round would take place (the Texas Championship) it featured two unknowns as they slowly battled it out, with the winner moving on to take on the Louisiana winner. Commentary from Real Shreveport’s Joel Rodgers and social legend Jake Wood would prove to save to Texas Championship. Because those Texas guys ate really really slow, but Jake and Joel provided some really funny moments.
Moving on to the championship, the battle on the border, Louisiana verses Texas! The hot dog contest to end all hot dog contests.
End the end, it was Eli Durr from Shreveport who was able to eat 1 hot dog quicker than the Texas winner.
Congratulations to Eli Durr on winning, eating, and not throwing up. We’ll see you next year, Eli.
Thanks for allowing us to have a little fun, Mickey.
