Restaurant Review: Buster’s Daily Bread

SHREVEPORT, LA – Being raised in the South, but relocating to Texas for the past 20 years there was one thing I really missed was a good po’boy sandwich. The better the bread the messier it is the better it is for me.

After moving here over a year ago, I was on the search for that one po’boy and I found it at a new sandwich shop in Shreveport. If you are truly from the South, you have eaten some of your best meals on the go and yes in a gas station. I enjoy potato logs, fried chicken and cold cuts on the road as a kid and now that has become a reality again.

Buster’s Daily Bread is located at 109 East Bert Kouns inside a local Swoop Convenience Store across from Home Depot and Academy Sporting Goods. It has upscaled seating and unlimited fountain drinks.

No more five-hour-plus drives to New Orleans to get that perfect po’boy… it is now here in Shreveport. Road trips to watch the Saints and Tigers in south Louisiana are a different story.

To reflect on this experience for a moment, Call the undertaker, tell the boys to strike up “When the Saints Go Marching In,” for I am dead with love for this hot mess of a sammie. Pairing impeccably grilled shrimp or a roast-beef debris and gravy (plus a good wipe of amazing sauces) this loaf of land and sea is a dazzler. (If you aren’t familiar with “debris,” it’s the meaty remains of a slab of roast beef that’s been baked to falling-apart tenderness, and one of the signature offerings of many good traditional po-boys. The gravy is perfect, and I think it should come with a straw. I will admit… I asked for extra gravy and bread and I did drink the gravy from the cup.

The clincher on this and all the po’boys prepared at this humble spot is the bread.  “Amazing” is not enough to describe it correctly. Crusty to the bite yet tender at the center with this New Orleans-style French bread.

I realize I am a tad picky but given the eager-to-please demeanor of the staff is hard to beat.  Luckily, anyone can customize their order to exact specification because Buster’s Daily Bread allows customers to use a very intuitive and simple kiosk to order the perfect po’boy just exactly the way they desire.

Will Broyles, Buster’s Daily Bread Founder, noted, “I’m proud to bring this restaurant concept to life. Buster’s Daily Bread fills a need in the Shreveport/Bossier market for a true Louisiana po’boy.  It also gives locals and travelers a fast option for great tasting, healthier options like salads and wraps. I hope people will come by and try one of the several exceptional items on our menu.  We want Buster’s Daily Bread to be a special place that Shreveport/Bossier can be proud to have as part of our great food culture.”

The menu is amazing and listed below so you can be prepared on your visit to Buster’s Daily Bread.
