SCRIMMAGE: North DeSoto at Haughton Buccaneers

HIGHLIGHTS: plus interviews from Thursday night in Haughton

Haughton, La — The Griffins from North DeSoto traveled to Haughton Thursday night for a scrimmage against the Buccaneers and their high powered offense.

Haughton is led by a trio of standout receivers; Christian McWilliams, Tristan Sweeney, and Matthew Whitten. Junior quarterback Peyton Stovall delivers the passes, and the Bucs defense is nasty.

Haughton has really good coaching, great fans, and a growing community.

In walks North DeSoto, the Griffins are led by new head coach and 9-time state champion Dennis Dunn. The community of Stonewall continues grow and big things are ahead for North DeSoto. The Griffins are 4A, but on Thursday their defense looked 5A-ish. Holding Haughton scoreless during TWO 8-minute running clock periods.

The scrimmage was capped off with a 12:00 quarter.

North DeSoto was dominate against the run. Led by defensive lineman Johnny Mitchell, the North DeSoto Griffin defensive will give people problems this year. The Griffins appeared strong, well coached, and ready to play. Their quarterback, K2, showed a good mix of talent, heart, and strength.

The 2019 season is going to be good for both these schools. bet.

Joel Rodgers

Joel Rodgers joined RSHV News 1 in January 2018 as a reporter/journalist. Prior to joining our team, Joel spent the previous 5 years as a morning show reporter, entertainment reporter, and sports reporter for a local television station. At 6’5”, he's the tallest reporter in the history of Shreveport, but it’s more than just his height that makes this Shreveport native stand out. His editing skills combined with his love for storytelling makes for a creative and talented addition to the RSHV News 1 team. After attending and graduating from Evangel Christian Academy, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern State University. Joel is very active in the Shreveport community having won several competitions in recent years. In 2017, he danced his way to victory in the annual Susan G. Komen event, “Dancing for the Cure." He’s also won the “Mudbug Madness” Crawfish eating contest in back-to-back years and was named the top celebrity chef at the “Louisiana Food Prize” cooking competition.
