Several area teams advance in high school playoffs

  • Joel Rodgers

As the high school football playoffs roll on, so do several teams in our area.

Look at the 5A Playoff Bracket, you’ll see Captain Shreve and Haughton. North Louisiana 5A fans will be in for a treat as Captain Shreve travels to West Monroe. And south Louisiana will see Haughton vs John Ehret (for a third year in a row).

First, Captain Shreve is coming off a first-round win against St. Amant and have been in every game this season. The win marked the gators first 5A playoff win in school history. The gators are big up front and may cause trouble for the number-one ranked West Monroe Rebels.

Haughton took care of Fontainebleau in the first-round and will advance to face John Ehret in New Orleans.

The 4A Playoff Bracket saw South Terrebonne falling to the falcons of Northwood

Helen Cox outlasting North DeSoto

Minden taking an “L” against top-ranked Edna Karr

Woodlawn getting bounced by Leesville

And Tioga taking out Benton

So, this week, and every week moving forward, Northwood will represent 4A in our area. They’re loaded, we believe in them. A falcon win this week at Helen Cox (this Friday Nov. 16) could set up a game against two-seed Warren Eason Nov 23. Please let this happen.

3A Playoff Bracket

Green Oaks lost to Wissman

2A Playoff Bracket

North Caddo lost to Rayville

Mansfield beat South Plaquemines

Red River lost to Franklin

1A Playoff Bracket

Logansport and Haynesville both got a bye

Division I Playoff Bracket

Evangel won against Archbishop Shaw 63-0

Evangel will play C.E. Byrd Friday night at Lee Hedges.

In Week 8, Evangel defeated Byrd 42-7. Last season Evangel beat Byrd 42-0 – BUT – C.E. Byrd is the only 5A school to ever have a district win against Evangel (2014).

The winner moves on to play the John Curtis Patriots. If Byrd wins, the jackets travel. If Evangel wins, the eagles travel. John Curtis has won 26 state championships. Evangel as won 14.

Division II Playoff Bracket

St. Louis wins against Loyola

Division III Playoff Bracket

Calvary wins against Pope John Paul

Calvary will play Isidore Newman at Calvary. Yes, the same Isidore Newman that Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and Foxe Smothers attended.

The Division IV Playoff Bracket doesn’t have any local teams but we wanted to write this sentence anyway.
