March Madness is everywhere, including the lacrosse field.

On Thursday night, two of the better lacrosse programs in North Louisiana faced off at Loyola’s Messmer Stadium. The Byrd Yellow Jackets and the Loyola Flyers. Two teams loaded with next level talent, and backed by great coaching. Byrd’s head coach Michael Pabst leads a really good yellow jacket team, and early on they were dominate.

The buzz was in the air as the jackets jumped out to a 6-3 halftime lead. Byrd’s Caden Shanklin, Nick Irwin, and Ezra Terry were able to oppose their will in the first half.

At halftime Loyola head coach John Sella challenged his team to come out and play with more intensity, they did.

Loyola was able to tie the game 9-9 on a buzzer beating shot by junior Will Weaver as seconds counted down in the third quarter.

The Flyers was then able to lean solid play by Clay Holmes, Cole Ballard, and Will Weaver and finish the game with by scoring 2 points in the fourth quarter, Byrd scored 1.

Final score 11-10.

An incredible game that I’d love to see again, and again…. and again.
