BATON ROUGE – It’s a Sun Belt type of week for the selection committee of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as the league sweeps state player of the week honors on the opening week of conference play.
Both Louisiana schools posted wins and the voters chose ULM quarterback Caleb Evans for offensive honors while the two state schools split defensive honors with Jacques Boudreaux taking honors for the Ragin’ Cajuns and the Warhawks Rashaad Harding getting the nod with equal votes as well.
The Cajuns were 37-24 victors over Georgia Southern, while the Warhawks scored a 30-17 victory over South Alabama.
Here are the capsules on the winners:
CALEB EVANS – ULM — Sr., QB, Mansfield, Texas
Evans accounted for 313 yards total offense and four touchdowns to lead ULM to a 30-17 victory over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams. Evans completed 17-of-25 throws for 286 yards, including TD strikes of 20 yards to Josh Pederson, 52 to Markis McCray and 21 to Jonathan Hodoh. He also rushed 11 times for 27 yards, including a 13-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter.
JACQUES BOUDREAUX – LOUISIANA — Sr., LB – New Orleans, La.
Boudreaux continued to be a leader for the Ragin’ Cajuns’ defense, notching a career-high 12 tackles in Louisiana’s 37-24 victory over Georgia Southern…Of the 12 tackles, seven came in the first half…His previous career high for tackles was 11, which he set a season ago against ULM…Boudreaux recorded his first TFL of the year against the Eagles, producing a three-yard loss.
RASHAAD HARDING – ULM — Jr., LB, Lafayette, La.
Harding set career highs for tackles (10), tackles for loss (2.5 for 8 yards) and sacks (2 for 7 yards) in ULM’s 30-17 victory over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
