A Shreveport man is behind bars accused in the fatal shooting of a local resident following a dispute Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on July 20, 2019, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a home located in the 1200 block of East Washington Street relative to a shooting. As officers arrived at the scene, they located the victim, 40 year old Roderick Gaut, suffering a single gunshot wound to the chest. Gaut was quickly transported to Ochsner’s Hospital by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased.

Patrol officers at the scene of the crime detained 65 year old Ronald Parker, after information was received that Parker allegedly shot Gaut following a brief verbal exchange between the two. Authorities recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the crime there at the home of Parker. Parker was taken to the Shreveport Police Department where he was interviewed by detectives. Following subsequent investigation, Parker was charged with one count of Second Degree Murder and booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
