Taxpayer’s Tab is Between $3-5 Million for Superintendent Goree’s Cabinet

According to the 2017-2018 Caddo Parish School Teacher Salary Schedule, a teacher can make anywhere from $44,065-64,363/year depending on education and experience, though a recent vote awarded teachers with a five percent pay raise

Goree’s $253,125/year is almost five times the average teacher’s salary.

In addition to this, there are a slew of division directors and assistants who do not fall under the “Superintendent’s Cabinet” category, but whose jobs arguably fall into the realm of executive staff with titles like “Director,” “Supervisor,” and “Specialist.”

As parents prepare to send their children back to school next month, it is notable that an administration making upwards of $4,500,000 to educate children is barely making a passing grade themselves. The Louisiana Board of Education gave Caddo Parish a 67.2 C for their 2018 district performance score. And although the Parish itself is passing, 37 out of the 63 schools evaluated in the parish had a failing grade, which means that 58.73% of Caddo Parish Public Schools are failing by state standards.

The executive staff has some issues of its own. The public records request it took to obtain this information was not answered within the 72-hour guideline set by the Public Records Act of Louisiana, and was not fulfilled until seven business days later. Even when the records were obtained, names on the payroll list did not match the names listed on their online staff directory. While some mistakes appear to just be spelling errors, some names were switched altogether for names that are similar.

To see how your child’s school or alma mater measures up, view the performance score summaries for yourself.

Update: Readers with better inside information than what was made publicly available by the school board’s documents provided information that showed some staff members were listed in two different positions. It’s unlikely, but still unclear whether or not they collected two different salary amounts. We have adjusted the likely totals based on this information.
