Ternium Awards Outstanding Students in Shreveport

Per a news release from Ternium USA:

Shreveport, LA. June 28th, 2019 Ternium has awarded with scholarships in Shreveport eight outstanding students, recognizing their dedication and academic achievements.  

Eight Scholarship Awards were presented to the finalists at a reception ceremony luncheon held inside the Main Conference Room at Ternium USA, Inc., 2500 Ron Bean Boulevard in Shreveport, Thursday, June 27 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm., in order to advance their studies.  

Ternium announced the recipients of the Ternium Merit Awards.  Outstanding high school seniors that met a GPA eligibility requirement, verified attendance requirement and no discipline infractions were eligible to apply for the monetary award.  Students submitted an essay as well as verification of enrollment in a post-secondary school or university. The following area high school seniors will be recognized at an award luncheon:

  • Ruth Jamison BodilyCaddo Magnet High School
  • Srikhar Chilukuri  – Caddo Magnet High School
  • Riley Christopher Felicetty –  Southwood High School
  • Bailey HayesCaddo Magnet High School
  • Ashlynn KellyCaddo Magnet High School
  • Savanna Morgan-Kay Kemper  – Northwood High School
  • Ashlyn Taylor O’Glee  – Airline High School
  • Abigail Nichole Roberts  – Captain Shreve High School

These students expressed their philosophies and their thanks.  Ashlyn Taylor O’Glee, graduate of Airline High School said, “Life is about service and serving others, Thank you Ternium.”    

Caddo Magnet High School graduate, Bailey Hayes shared this, “If life is a book, you have to close a chapter to start another and college will be my new chapter, Thank you Ternium.” 

“This year we saw growth in the number of applicants, and are pleased to expand our involvement in NW Louisiana with various community projects and scholarship awards.   This is a fine group of young people that have already accomplished a lot and exhibited leadership in their high school careers.   Ternium is glad to provide assistance to the these future leaders of our community,” said Mike Guhl, Ternium USA President.

Ternium has different programs aimed at improving skills and education in communities near its facilities. Ternium has awarded $6,2 million US dollars for education during 2018 across the countries worldwide.

Julia LeFort

Julia LeFort joined RSHV News 1 in May 2019 following her graduation from Florida College with a Bachelor's Degree in May 2019. She has been working as an editor in Florida for the past two years and previously graduated from Benton High School. Currently she is working as the content manager and a contributing reporter to RSHV News 1, while also attending graduate school online through LSU's School of Library and Information Science.
