“It was a total team effort to leave here winning the men’s and women’s meet,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “Our mindset heading into today was the score being 0-0 and having to win the day.”

The Tigers definitely won the day as four swimmers won individual races. For the women, Cassie Kalisz won her second event of the weekend after touching the wall in 1:58.53 in the 200-Yard Backstroke. Katarina Milutinovich won her second event as the freshman won the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.11. Summer Stanfield also made it two wins for the weekend as she won the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:02.19.

Other Lady Tigers in the ‘A’ Final of their events were Jolee Liles and Olivia Paskulin. Liles finished in second place in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:02.24 and in seventh place in the 200-Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:09.60. Paskulin touched the wall in 2:21.79 to finish in fourth place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.

Both relay teams were victorious for the Lady Tigers. The team of Kalisz, Paskulin, Helen Grossman, and Olivia Taylor touched the wall in 1:43.27 to win the 200-Yard Medley Relay. To close out the meet, the team of Milutinovich, Taylor, Grossman, and Stanfield won the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:26.36.

“The women started off where they left yesterday with the relay win and closed with one as well,” said Coach Geyer. “Winning all four relays here was a great accomplishment. In between the relays, I thought there were some really strong efforts all throughout.”

For the men, the team of Karl Luht, Luca Pfyffer, Lewis Clough, and Matt Klotz got the day started with a 200-Yard Medley Relay win after swimming a 1:29.51.

Klotz led the way individually after earning the top spot in the 200-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:48.97. Along with Klotz, Keagan Finley, Pfyffer, Brooks Curry, and Clough all took part in ‘A’ Final swims.

Finley finished in sixth place in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:39.70. Pfyffer had two top-four finishes on Saturday as the junior finished in second place in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 1:53.11 and in fourth place with a time of 2:04.75 in the 200-Yard Breaststroke. Curry and Clough both took the silver in their respective events. Curry touched the wall in 44.52 in the 100-Yard Freestyle and Clough in 1:47.64 in the 100-Yard Butterfly.

With the Tigers and Pittsburgh going down to the wire to determine the winner, the team of Curry, Klotz, Karl Luht, and Clough stepped up with a time of 2:59.11 to win the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay and put a stamp on a Tiger win.

“The men had a battle with Pittsburgh all day,” continued Geyer. “We would edge up a little on the score and they would get back to even with us. That last relay put in a great performance to finish off a Tiger victory.”

ON THE BOARDS

Manny Vazquez Bas earned his second top-two finish of the weekend on the springboard events. This time however, the freshman came away with a three-meter win after diving to a score of 326.95. Dakota Hurbis dove to a score of 289.25 to finish in 9thplace.

For the women, Aimee Wilson claimed the silver on the One-Meter Springboard with a score of 273.05. Anne Tuxen, who won the three-meter on Friday, finished in 11thplace with a score of 249.90.

“Overall, I thought this was a good two-day experience that really challenged us,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “We don’t dive outside so this was a big adjustment for us. We had some bumps but also some really positive outcomes so as a whole I am pleased.”
