BATON ROUGE – The LSU Swimming and Diving Team will hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Miami, Florida to take part in the TYR Fall Classic on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. The event will take place at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center on the campus of Florida International University.

Along with the Tigers and host FIU; Pittsburg, TCU, Grand Canyon, FAU, Old Dominion, George Washington, Army, and Keiser will all be in action. Only nine swimmers and two divers from each school are allowed to take part in the competition.

IN THE POOL

The Lady Tigers are coming off a dual meet victory over Tulane that took place last Saturday at the LSU Natatorium. A total of five Lady Tigers won events during that meet highlighted by Summer Stanfield and her three victories. The freshman won both the 100 and 200-Yard Freestyle with times of 51.99 and 1:51.42, respectively. Stanfield also won the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:02.53.

Cassie Kalisz was the other Lady Tiger to win multiple events against Tulane. The junior won the 100 as well as the 200-Yard Backstroke. She touched the wall in 55.23 in the 100-Yard and 1:58.92 in the 200-Yard.

For the men, this will be their first competition since the Purple and Gold Intrasquad that took place on September 21.

In the Intrasquad, Luca Pfyffer and Lewis Clough both won multiple events. Pfyffer won the 100 and 200-Yard Breaststroke with times of 57.58 and 2:07.36. Clough won the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 48.42 and the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:39.40.

“The TYR Classic is an interesting meet for us to attend but I like the challenges that go along with it,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “You have to select nine swimmers on each side and then try to put your best two scoring opportunities in each event with each athlete being limited to three events per day. We took swimmers to a meet similar to this one a few years ago and it was great. Definitely a tight group to really bring forth our competitive energy.”

ON THE BOARDS

Manny Vazquez Bas, Aimee Wilson, and Anne Tuxen will be compete on the springboard events for the Tigers.

Last Saturday against Tulane, Wilson took the top spot on the One-Meter Springboard with a score of 319.88. She followed that performance up with a 329.40 to finish in second place on three-meter. After finishing second on one-meter with a score of 294.83, Tuxen won the three-meter with a score of 337.88.

This will be the first competitive action for Vazquez Bas since the Purple and Gold Intrasquad where the freshman won both springboard events.

“Each week we have shown growth on the boards and I look forward to continuing that progress,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Our biggest challenges will be competing outdoors and adjusting to different equipment but I’m looking forward to our first team travel trip and competing on the road.”
