BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A traffic stop as part of a narcotics investigation has led to a suspect being shot by an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy.
Louisiana State Police Troop A spokesman Trooper Bryan Lee confirms it happened about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Baton Rouge. He says the man sustained non-life threatening wounds.
WBRZ-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2h3VmBR ) the man was shot in the left arm and is in stable condition at an area hospital.
No deputies were hurt.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks identified the suspect as 23-year-old George Pikes, who will face at least three counts of distribution of heroin.
Lee says troopers are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.
The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
