MONROE, La. – 12 ULM softball student-athletes were named 2019 All-America Scholar-Athletes, while the team was recognized for having a 3.45 cumulative GPA as announced by Easton and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association on Wednesday.
“It’s very difficult to maintain that high of a GPA because you’re basically juggling two full-time jobs, but we make it a priority for this team,” head coach Molly Fichtner said.
Adrianna Chavarria (kinesiology), Kori Jewell (criminal justice), Korie Kreps (undeclared), Rylee Lara (criminal justice), Sydney McKay (management), Jayden Mount (kinesiology), Charlie Names (kinesiology), Victoria Pederson (kinesiology), Karly Taranto (communication), Bailey Thibodeaux (marketing), Jessie Watts (psychology) and Murphy Williams (kinesiology) were all named All-America Scholar-Athletes. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA to be named an All-America Scholar-Athlete.
“I tell the girls it’s my job to make sure when they leave here to have a diploma in one hand and a championship ring in the other,” Fichtner said.
The team GPA of 3.45 ranked 52nd out of 297 NCAA Division I institutions which sponsor softball.
