UPDATED List of local high school football jamborees

Shreveport, La — High school football is back. Well… almost back.

Area are practicing hard and getting ready for the 2019 season. No paths have been cleared for running backs. No blocks have been made downfield, no rushing yards have been earned, and no tackles have been made … but they’re all about to be.

High School football returns with a slew of jamborees throughout the area and August 29th & 30th. Here’s some jamborees to look forward to:


Thursday August 29

Red River Bulldogs vs Loyola Flyers  (Messmer Stadium) 6pm


Friday August 30 Jamborees

Woodlawn Knights vs Southwood Cowboys (independence Stadium) 6pm

C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets vs Captain Shreve Gators (@Lee Hedges)

Also, if you’re a fan of scrimmages you may want to check out the Haughton at North DeSoto scrimmage or the  C.E. Byrd vs Ruston scrimmage (at Ruston High School) Those both take place on Thursday August 22nd.

Several other scrimmages are taking place on Friday August 23rd, but we’re still working on that list.

Joel Rodgers

Joel Rodgers joined RSHV News 1 in January 2018 as a reporter/journalist. Prior to joining our team, Joel spent the previous 5 years as a morning show reporter, entertainment reporter, and sports reporter for a local television station. At 6’5”, he's the tallest reporter in the history of Shreveport, but it’s more than just his height that makes this Shreveport native stand out. His editing skills combined with his love for storytelling makes for a creative and talented addition to the RSHV News 1 team. After attending and graduating from Evangel Christian Academy, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern State University. Joel is very active in the Shreveport community having won several competitions in recent years. In 2017, he danced his way to victory in the annual Susan G. Komen event, “Dancing for the Cure." He’s also won the “Mudbug Madness” Crawfish eating contest in back-to-back years and was named the top celebrity chef at the “Louisiana Food Prize” cooking competition.
