**UPSET IN NATCHITOCHES** – Northwestern State beats LSU

  • Joel Rodgers

Demons hosting the #10 ranked baseball team in the country, the LSU Tigers.

Before Tuesday, LSU led the series with Northwestern State, 59-11, and the Tigers won 21 of the past 22 meetings, including two wins over the Demons last season – a 9-5 victory on May 15 in Baton Rouge, and a 9-5 win on June 3 in an elimination game at the NCAA Corvallis (Ore.) Regional. The Demons’ only win in the past 22 games with LSU was a 5-2 victory on April 12, 2011, in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU coach Paul Mainieri has a 14-1 career mark against Northwestern State.

But Tuesday is over, Northwestern State Demons defeated LSU 3-1 on Tuesday. The Demons won against the No. 10 Tigers Tuesday night in Brown-Stroud Field, they beat the Tigers. What a moment for the NSU. It kinda feels like they hit another 3 against Iowa. Congratulations right-hander Cullen McDonald, he held the LSU baseball team to one run through 7.2 innings. Before the game, the NSU Sr. RH Cullen McDonald had a real nice stat line….(1-0, 0.69 ERA, 13.0 IP, 0 BB, 7 SO)… see?

Northwestern State is now 8-6 overall, and the Demons have won five of their seven home games this season … NSU opened Southland Conference play last weekend, dropping two of three games at Abilene Christian.

LSU drops to 11-5 on the year and will return to action with a game against Texas Southern Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
